AMLÉ's deputy president has said that the reversion of university fees was not made clear to the students' union Alamy Stock Photo

Should third-level student fees increase to what they were previously?

Undergraduate student fees will revert to €3,000 if the universal cuts are discontinued.

IT HAS BEEN indicated that the universal cut to college fees for all undergraduate students in Ireland will not be replicated in this year’s budget.

Higher Education Minister James Lawless said that the previous fee reductions in place last year were part of a cost-of-living budget package, which the Government does not plan to continue this year.

The deputy president of Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn (AMLÉ), the national union of students in Ireland, has voiced concerns that reverting student fees to their previous cost will “really hurt” students.

So, today we’re asking you: Should third-level student fees increase to what they were previously?

Poll Results:

I think they should be lower than they are now (3605)
No – they should stay at what they are now (1889)
Yes – they should return to what they were previously (1611)
Unsure (237)
